Start with checks you can undo.

The official support article was updated May 21, 2026 and includes Demo-specific instructions and paths. These are Demo checks, not confirmed full-release fixes. Keep the original state so you can tell whether a change helped.

  1. Check the PC against the listed requirements.Compare your hardware first, and confirm the intended dedicated GPU is being used. Read the full published specification rather than guessing from one component.
  2. Check drivers and the system clock.Use the GPU vendor's normal driver update path and make sure the system time matches your time zone. Avoid stacking several changes before testing again.
  3. Verify the Demo's game files.Use the store client's verification function. This checks installed files without asking you to delete unrelated folders.
  4. Test without extra overlays or unneeded USB devices.Temporarily close an overlay and unplug only unnecessary peripherals. Keep your normal keyboard, pointing device and microphone available; retest after a single change.
  5. If you can reach the settings, try VSync off.Record the prior setting so it can be restored. This guide does not ask you to edit the Demo's configuration files by hand.

Try DX11, with a clear route back.

The support article says the Demo starts with DirectX 12 and suggests a DirectX 11 trial. In Steam, open the Demo's Properties → General → Launch Options. Keep a copy of any existing options, then add this option:

-force-d3d11
OriginalDX12 default
One trialAdd DX11 option
ObserveRelaunch the Demo
If it does not help:Remove only the option you added, then relaunch.
Keep the earlier options. Removing your added -force-d3d11 returns this trial to its previous state.

Repeat the same action that caused the crash. If the trial does not help, remove the added option as the official advice instructs. Do not erase unrelated launch options or combine this test with several other graphics changes.

If the Demo still crashes, make the next report precise.

Record whether it stops before opening, during a cutscene or during play. Include the Demo version if visible, your PC configuration, the error text and the checks you tried. Say whether the DX11 trial changed anything and whether you reverted it.

Send the details through Total Mayhem Games Support. The copyable issue template can help you organize them.

If the issue is a missing conversation rather than a crash, use the voice guide. The official support page notes that public or managed networks can restrict voice traffic; that is a separate symptom from a failed launch.
